The former customs chief, Nicanor Faeldon, who had been under Senate detention in connection with alleged unbecoming behavior at a PhP6.4-billion shabu smuggling scandal through the Bureau of Customs, was transferred to the Pasay City Jail on Tuesday noon.

The Senate blue ribbon committee directed Faeldon’s transfer after he failed what the committee had described as a “contrition test,” maintaining his being cited in contempt for snubbing the legislative inquiry.

Faeldon was supposed to be moved Monday night, but hygiene issues at the jail premises prevented the transfer.

His blood pressure also shot up following the hours-long hearing.

Faeldon had indicated his willingness to be incarcerated “anywhere”.

The Senate, for its part, said any problems that Faeldon is facing is “self-inflicted”, implying that there is nobody to blame but himself.
