Two American vloggers in the Philippines reacted to the planned demolition of the “Mount Kamuning” footbridge, which has long been a subject of memes.

The “TriFate Biscuit Boys,” two Americans behind the “TriFate PH” vlog, where they document their adventures in the country, shared a video of their visit to the elevated footbridge along EDSA Scout Borromeo.

The bridge is set to be redesigned to make it more pedestrian-friendly.

“Sadness has taken over us in the Philippines… A historic monument is being taken down,” they joked in a Facebook post on Thursday, August 28.

“We used to live over in the Kamuning area of Quezon City, and there is [one] place everyone from that area knows; Mount Kamuning. A wonderful structure that gives you the experience of climbing a 6-story building, all so you can cross the street,” they added.

“But now it is being taken down, so we paid one last visit to pay homage to this engineering marvel we call Mount Kamuning,” the vloggers continued.

Their post has garnered 13,000 laugh reactions, 1,900 likes and over 380 comments so far.

“Bwahahahaha, welcome to the Philippines, you should try the one with the challenging cable lines..” a Facebook user wrote.

“You adopted the Filipino Sense of Humor already guys, hahaha,” another commented.

Mount Kamuning

In June, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the removal of the elevated footbridge along EDSA Scout Borromeo, which has been dubbed “Mount Kamuning” due to its steep incline.

Reports said that the Mount Kamuning footbridge was as tall as a five-story building.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new footbridge took place on August 14.

Designed with accessibility in mind, the new footbridge will feature two elevators, two wheelchair lifts and a pedestrian-friendly walkway.

It will also include tactile paving surfaces to guide visually impaired individuals and clear wayfinding signage to assist all pedestrians and passengers.

The new footbridge will also be connected to the EDSA Busway Kamuning Station and will resemble the SM North Concourse design.

The Kamuning footbridge was constructed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in 2018 to improve pedestrian safety in the area, particularly for those who need to cross EDSA.

The MMDA previously said that the area was accident-prone. According to their data at that time, ten pedestrians were involved in accidents every month in that specific area.

Many of these pedestrians would walk beneath the MRT to cross the other side of the major thoroughfare.

To prevent further casualties, the government agency decided to build the footbridge instead, providing a safe route for pedestrians to cross EDSA without the risk of being apprehended or run over.

The footbridge’s height was a result of requirements set by MRT management, as it was elevated to avoid obstructing the railway’s power lines.
