A hair curler review backfired when the item exploded in sparks.
Vanessa Ochea recorded herself styling her hair for her followers and seemed pleased with the outcome before it short-circuited in her hand in Cebu.
Footage shows Ochea using the heated brush to form soft waves. She gave a thumbs-up to show how well it worked and was about to style the other side when the explosion happened.
She uploaded the video on TikTok where it garnered 2 million views, 42,300 likes, 807 comments, 3,378 saves.

“Sunog!” Ochea captioned her post.
“Maganda na sana pumutok lang,” she also wrote in the in-video text.
Some explained why the hair dryer brush could have exploded.
“May volt na nakaindicate sa may saksakan/plug yung hairtool and may corresponding volt din na outlet ang dapat pagsaksakan niyan. Sasabog talaga yan if hindi match yung voltage,” a TikTok user said.
“Bakit naman kasi natupi ng sobra ang wire kaya pumutok, gamit ko siya within a year na din hindi ko hinahayaang matupi ang wire niyan. depende nalang talaga sa pag gamit kung maalaga ka sa gamit,” another commented.
“Hello! Always rough dry your hair with a normal hair dryer first up to 80% then use the styling brush for styling para di sya pumutok agad. The motor kasi of those styling dryers aren’t really meant to use for fully wet hair!” a TikTok user also wrote.
“Napilipit ‘yong wire dapat habang ginagamit make sure na nakaayos ‘yong wire,” one also said.
Others said the same thing happened to them.
“Ganyan din nangyari sa akin pero blower huhu,” a TikTok user commented.
“Same ganyan din nangyari sa blower ko,” another said.
“Ang dami kong nasubukan na ganyan, talagang prone siya sa putukan,” a TikTok user said.
Ochea, however, said she “did not know why it suddenly sparked.”
The sparks came from the section where the power cord connected to the tool while unwinding the cord.
The startled vlogger quickly unplugged the device and was unhurt on September 19.
