Jeepney signboards and everyday Filipino expressions will be celebrated in a weeklong street culture and design activation.
The event will be staged to mark the second anniversary of Uniqlo’s redefined retail space in SM Mall of Asia.
It will run from June 12 to 18 and features activities that draw from everyday Filipino street culture and the visual language of public transport.
From June 12 to 14, customers can take part in a customization activity where shirts are designed in the style of jeepney signboards, allowing participants to personalize pieces with their own words and phrases.
The on-site experience will be led by Filipino visual storyteller Kulas Jalea and three other local artists, who incorporate folk-inspired and street-based aesthetics into their designs. Slots are limited and are available through pre-registration.
Participants can have their chosen phrases rendered in a jeepney signboard style, transforming familiar expressions into wearable artwork.
Uniqlo said the concept reflects the cultural significance of jeepneys as symbols of resilience, creativity and community in everyday Filipino life.
“Inspired by the rhythm of the streets and the spirit of community, the celebration honors the people and moments that keep Filipino life moving forward,” the press release read.
Participants will also receive sticker packs featuring Filipino expressions such as “Extra Rice Please” and “Petsa de Peligro,” along with jeepney-themed designs.
The anniversary celebration also includes embroidery options inspired by jeepney motifs, as well as limited offers on selected apparel items.
Two years since its reopening, Uniqlo Mall of Asia said the store continues to serve as a space where global retail meets local culture.
“Two years since its reopening, Uniqlo Mall of Asia continues to be a space where global simplicity meets local relevance—where LifeWear becomes part of the stories we wear, every day,” it said.
