MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation has secured a copy of the arrest warrant issued by the court on Jerry Omlang y Abarando, the civilian who joined the police stakeout on Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo before the latter was seized allegedly by rogue cops, detained then killed in October 2016.

Omlang is facing charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention before Branch 58 of the Pampanga Regional Trial Court where authorities earlier filed criminal charges against several members of the Philippine National Police’s anti-illegal drugs unit.

Judge Irineo Pangilinan Jr. set Omlang’s bail at P300,000.

Omlang was described as an NBI “striker” – not a regular employee but one who does odd jobs within the bureau.

The October 18 kidnapping and execution of Jee – right inside a room in Camp Crame, PNP headquarters – so angered President Duterte he ordered a stop then to Oplan Tokhang, following revelations that the police kidnappers had used a purported anti-drug mission as pretext for seizing Jee.

Omlang earlier admitted he had joined the surveillance operations of Senior Police Officer 3 Ricky Sta. Maria’s group before the Korean businessman was taken from his home in a subdivision in Angeles City, then taken to Crame where he was strangled to death.

Jee’s body was then taken to a mortuary owned by a retired police officer, then cremated and the ashes flushed down a toilet, sparking outrage from the Korean’s family and the Seoul government, which demanded justice.

Omlang was also seen on CCTV withdrawing money from an ATM machine, using Jee’s ATM card.

It was also Omlang who tagged Supt. Rafael Dumlao as the mastermind of the abduction of Jee, an allegation also made by SPO3 Sta. Maria.
