MANILA – Four suspected members of the Maute Group were killed and a policeman wounded when a PNP convoy ferrying the suspects to Cagayan de Oro was ambushed Saturday night, authorities said.

The ambush took place at the boundary of the towns of Pantar and Balo-i in Lanao del Sur.

The four suspects and the police officer were rushed to the Dr. Uy Hospital in Iligan City, but three of the suspects were declared dead on arrival.

The fourth suspect, who was critical late Saturday, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning, according to the village chief of Barangay Poblacion of Iligan City who went to the hospital and talked to police.

News5 tried to get comments from the PNP’s Regional Operations Safety Battallion and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) who were with the convoy, but they declined to make a statement.
