5 drug suspects slain in Cotabato gun battle

KABACAN, Cotabato — Five drug suspects were killed and two others arrested during an anti-drug operation mounted by the military and police in Kabacan town, Cotabato early Wednesday morning.

Karim Acoy, alias “Butterfly,” and four cohorts, only three of whom were identified by their aliases “Gardo,” “Roland,” and “Ali,” died in the gun battle that broke out when they fired on the raiders, Chief Inspector Bryan Placer, Kabacan police chief, said.

Placer said authorities were looking to serve three search warrants in Sitio Sugod when they were shot at from Acoy’s house past 4 a.m.

The police officer did not identify the two arrested suspects.

None of the government personnel were hurt in the shootout.

The raiding team seized two .45 caliber pistols, two hand grenades, two .38 caliber revolver, several sachets of suspected crystal meth or shabu and drug paraphernalia.
