MANILA – The Department of Justice will hold a preliminary investigation on the charges against alleged drug lord Peter Lim. The DOJ set the first hearing at 10am on August 14.

A subpoena was issued on Lim on Tuesday morning, but Philippine Star quoted sources in Cebu as saying the businessman had left the country.

Besides Peter Lim, also facing charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act are Kerwin Espinosa, Peter Co, Marcelo Adorco, Max Miro, Lovely Adam Impal, Ruel Malindangan and Jun Pepito.

The eight were placed last Monday on an immigration lookout bulletin order after the drug complaints were filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group led by Supt. Richard Verceles of the Major Crimes Investigation Unit.

The cases will be handled by Assistant State Prosecutors Aristotle Reyes and John Michael Humarang.

It is the first case lodged against Lim, a friend of President Duterte. The non-filing of any case against him had earlier been used by critics of the war on drugs as an indication of “selective prosecution.”
