Rebels seen in Negros militiaman’s slay as security tightened in Davao region after cop’s killing

DUMAGUETE CITY — The New People’s Army is believed to have executed a militiaman whose body was found late Monday, November 13, in Siaton town, Negros Oriental.

In the Davao region, the Army’s 10th Infantry Division and Police Regional Office 11 intensified security operations following the killing of a police officer in Davao City by suspected rebel assassins.

In Negros, police reports said Gelino M. Vailoces, 52, of Sitio Ondol, Barangay Talalak, Sta. Catalina, was seized from his home Monday morning.

The body of the member of the Special CAFGU Armed Auxiliary assigned to a detachment in Sitio Cuadra, Barangay Mantiquil, Siaton, was found later that day with gunshot wounds in the head and right knee.

In Davao, Major General Noel Clement said: “I have directed our troops to be vigilant not only during operations but also during administrative movement and when visiting their families.”

PRO 11 director Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan said he has ordered all city and municipal police stations and provincial offices to preempt rebel actions.

The measures followed the death of Police Officer 3 Wilfredo Garol Jr. of the Baguio police station, who was gunned down in Barangay New Valencia, Tugbok district on Monday.

That same day, rebels also seized PO2s Alfredo Lauro Degamon Jr. and John Paul Mondaya Doverte in Placer town, Surigao del Norte.
