An electronics store joked about upgrading Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto‘s mobile phone following his landslide victory in the mayoral elections in the 2025 polls.
Tech Partner on Tuesday, May 13, quipped about giving the city chief a free iPhone 16 Pro Max in celebration of his election win and final term in office.
“Congratulations, Mayor Vico Sotto, on your resounding victory! To further support your impactful work, Tech Partner PH would like to present you with a brand-new iPhone 16 Pro Max,” it said in a satirical Facebook post.
“We hope this upgrade from your current Oppo phone will enhance your ability to connect and serve the community,” the store added.
It joked that Sotto “may now trade-in” his current phone “to take better pictures and video calls” for his work.
The satire has so far garnered 76,000 likes and reactions, 12,000 shares, and 1,800 comments, including one from Pasig City Councilor Kiko Rustia.
“Ako na pi-pickup kasi kapit bahay lang naman tayo,” he joked with a laughing emoji.
“Hehehe, congrats, sir!” the store replied to Rustia, who also won as a city councilor reelectionist under Sotto’s slate.
The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees does not allow public officials and employees to accept “any gift, gratuity, favor, entertainment, loan or anything of monetary value” from anyone in the course of their official duties.
The satire was a reference to jokes about Sotto’s phone camera quality, which some have teased as being less than stellar.
In December 2024, the mayor shared a video of himself shot on his mobile phone. Due to the video quality, some joked that it appeared as if he used the city’s CCTV to record.
Financial consultant and motivational speaker Chinkee Tan previously revealed that Sotto owned a “simple” mobile phone, which the latter said was free in his network’s postpaid plan.
