Liam Gallagher was supposed to perform in Manila 15 years ago together with the legendary Britpop band he fronted, Oasis.

But a spate of terrorist bombings in Manila, Zamboanga and Bali, Indonesia forced the group to cancel the Manila concert. So when Oasis later broke up in 2009, the group’s Filipino fans thought there was no more chance of seeing the band live performing their classic tunes like “Live Forever,” “Wonderwall,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “Stand By Me.”

When Ovation Productions announced that it would be bringing the Englishman dubbed by readers of British music publication Q Magazine as “the greatest frontman of all time,” many of Oasis’ fans dating back to the 1990s were hopeful to hear some of the tunes that defined their generation.

For a good part of his August 14 show at the Mall of Asia Arena, Liam did not disappoint. However, an equally large portion of his concert was dedicated to promoting his new songs from his upcoming album “As You Were,” scheduled for release this October.
