Some local coffee shops are giving free antacids to individuals who would purchase a cup of joe from them.

Kalinaw Coffee Co, Ninety Three Coffee, and The Signal Coffee are offering Kremil-S Cool Relief for every cup of coffee purchased from them.

The initiative is in partnership with the antacid product under Unilab.

“We give out FREE Kremil-S Cool Relief for every coffee purchased as AFTER CARE ’cause ‘Okay lang magka-acid reflux, mamaya pa naman ‘yun,'” Kalinaw Coffee said in one of its posts.

Kremil-S Cool Relief is an antacid used for heartburn or acid reflux.

Unilab said it creates a barrier to block acid reflux and neutralizes stomach acid for up to four hours of relief.

It added that the antacid also protects the stomach from irritation caused by excess acid.

Caffeine, which is found in coffee, can increase the risk of acid reflux and heartburn in some people, according to Healthline.

The website said caffeine “has been shown to relax the lower esophageal sphincter,” which can increase the risk.

It added that coffee may stimulate gastric acid secretion, which may exacerbate heartburn.

Acid reflux causes heartburn, a burning sensation that happens when some of the stomach’s acid content flows into the esophagus. Some of its triggers include coffee.
