Some Filipinos could relate to a driver in Camarines Sur who blasted a popular reggaeton song and sang along to avoid being creeped out by the road he was driving on.

Reports said that Jayvs Galido, an on-call driver from Pasacao, entertained online Pinoys after posting a video of himself singing to Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina” while driving on a dark, empty road for a delivery.

“Sound trip mo para iwas overthink sa gantong daan HAHAHA,” the text in the video read.

The road was dark, surrounded by tall grasses, bushes and trees, with no trace of houses or other establishments.

There were no lampposts or streetlights and only Galido’s headlights provided visibility in the darkness.

In an interview, he said it was around 2 a.m. at the time, and he had to drop off a client’s baggage.

Galido decided to play some music on his speaker to ease the unease he felt while driving along the unexpectedly long road.

“Madami na din akong napuntahan na medyo creepy ang lugar, pero okay lang naman. Palakasan na lang talaga ng loob,” he told Inquirer.net.

Galido said he finished the delivery and got home safely after the incident.

Meanwhile, other Filipinos who saw the video shared their own experiences of driving along similar routes.

“I remember how Waze directed me to a long, narrow, dark unnamed road wherein at one point, we passed by a cemetery. Tahimik lang kami ni Mama. No sounds kasi I need to concentrate and get out as fast as a I could. Pahamak din minsan itong si Waze,” an online user said.

Waze is a popular navigation app used by drivers to map out their routes.

“Jusko, ganitong-ganito kami nung nag-land travel from Ilo-Ilo to Carles para sa Gigantes Island. Akala ko talaga may makakasalubong kaming aswang,” another online user commented.

“Same here when driving to those similar-looking roads in Bicolandia with Bruno Mars or Rihanna dance hits (and some Eminem’s too),” a different X user wrote.

“May ganitong daan from Lancaster palabas sa main road.
Naalala ko ‘yung sinusundan ko na sasakyan, umarangkada tapos hinahabol mo para may kasama ako sa daan,” another Pinoy shared.

Research notes that music can counteract fatigue while driving, with “higher-intensity, higher-tempo, more danceable, and less instrumental music” being more effective.
