A public utility vehicle (PUV) was caught on dashcam allegedly violating traffic rules after proceeding through a red lighht at an intersection in Metro Manila.
Automotive publication VISOR shared the dashcam footage, which is said was recorded on the night of June 27 at an undisclosed area in Metro Manila.
The video shows a UV Express continue through an intersection despite a red traffic signal. At that time, vehicles from the cross street were allegedly passing through the intersection after receiving the right of way.
The UV Express continued forward despite the red light in its direction.
A motorcycle rider traveling on its right also proceeded through the intersection.
“For his next trick, David Chauffeurfield will demonstrate that it is possible to penetrate traffic even under a red light,” the caption on VISOR’s post read.
The post has garnered more than 3,300 likes and reactions and nearly 390 comments on Facebook, with many Filipinos criticizing the UV Express driver for the alleged traffic violation.
“Ito ‘yung mga naka-stop ‘pag green light (mag-aabang ng pasahero) tapos go naman ‘pag red light (para maunahan niya sa pasahero ‘yung nasa likod niya na jeep o modern jeep),” an online user commented.
“Ganyang driver, dapat tanggalan ng lisensya ‘yan,” wrote another Pinoy.
“Lakasan lang ng loob at kawalan ng disiplina ang puhunan,” a different Facebook user commented.
“Lakas ng loob kasi walang enforcer,” another wrote.
Beating a red light is considered disregarding traffic signs under traffic regulations and, depending on the circumstances, may also constitute reckless driving.
The penalty for disregarding traffic signs is P1,000 for a first offense.
Motorists are expected to obey traffic signals and other road rules to help ensure the safety of fellow drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
