The public has been warned against buying an instant coffee pack from a bakery shop that has been flagged by the Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines.

A Facebook page on Sunday, March 13, posted an advisory from the regulatory agency flagging Pan de Manila‘s Cafe Con Leche 3-in-1 Spanish-Style Coffee as “unregistered.”

“DO NOT PURCHASE. DO NOT CONSUME,” the Brand Verification page said.

The FDA Philippines released an advisory on February 9 regarding the instant coffee, warning healthcare professionals and the public against purchasing and consuming the product.

It said that the product “is not registered and no corresponding Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) has been issued.”

In the country, all processed food and food products — including food additives, food supplements and bottled water — manufactured and distributed for trade and/or repacked, are required to secure CPRs before they are sold and distributed to the public.

“Since these unregistered food supplements and food products have not gone through the evaluation process of the FDA, the agency cannot assure its quality and safety,” the FDA said.

“All concerned establishments are hereby warned not to distribute, sell, advertise, or promote the said product until a CPR is issued; otherwise, regulatory actions and sanctions shall be strictly pursued,” it added.
