MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte grew richer by over P3 million six months since he became the highest leader of the land and by close to P27 million since 19 years ago when he was Davao City mayor.
A copy of the President’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) showed that as of December 31, 2016, his declared total net worth was P27.43 million.
The figure is almost 14 percent or P3.3 million higher than the P24.08 million net worth that Duterte declared in his SALN as of June 30, 2016.
His P27.43-million net worth as of December 2016 is 2,955 percent or P26.53 million bigger than his declared total net worth of P897,792 in 1997.
2016 net worth higher by almost P4M than in 2015
His net worth last year was higher by almost 17 percent to P3.91 million than his 2015 net worth of P23.51 million.
Also, the highest growth in Duterte’s net worth since eight years ago was recorded in 2016. His net worth growth last year worth P3.91 million was much higher than his yearly average net worth growth of P1.17 million from 2009 to 2015.
The highest growth in the President’s declared net worth was recorded in 2003 at P6.51 million that was 130 percent or P3.7 million higher than his 2002 net worth of P2.83 million.
Also, his net worth significantly increased in 2008 when it jumped by almost 60 percent or 5.63 million to P15.32 million from P9.69 million in 2007. [SEE CHART BELOW]
In his latest SALN, the President declared that he had a total cash on hand and in bank worth P18.45 million; real properties consisting of four residential lots worth P480,000 (acquisition cost) and another five residential lots worth P925,000 (acquisition cost); two vehicles amounting to P840,000; and household appliance and furniture valued at P350,000.
Duterte also declared owning pieces of jewelry worth P300,000; investments amounting to P3 million, and other personal properties valued at P1 million.
His sole liability is a personal loan amounting to P1 million.
Duterte also declared in his Dec. 31, 2016 SALN the properties listed under her daughter, Veronica, consisting of five residential and agricultural lots acquired between 2005 and 2015 worth P3.08 million.
President’s salary vs mayor’s salary
Among public officials and employees, the President has the highest salary grade of 33, which was equivalent to 120,000 monthly in 2009. This was increased last year when then President Benigno Aquino III signed Executive Order No. 201 on February 19, 2016.
The EO that approved the wage increase for government employees raised the President’s monthly salary to P160,924 at the start of Duterte’s term. It will be further increased to P399,739 per month by 2019.
In 2001, then Mayor Duterte declared in his SALN that his monthly salary was P28,875 or just 18 percent of what he is receiving now as chief executive.
