Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo Lim is to meet with hotel operators and restaurant owners on Thursday to thresh out guidelines for resolving the parking concerns in the metropolis.

Lim is expected to discuss with the members of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines the parking problems of their clientele and how to address these concerns.

Aside from parking woes, Lim will also discuss the matter of security of the establishments in the light of the attack by a gunman at Resorts World Manila (RWM) in Pasay City last week, where at least 38 people died and scores of others hurt during the stampede.

“We should always be vigilant to ensure the safety of the public,” according to Lim, a former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) brigadier general and commander of the First Scout Ranger Regiment.

Though government security and law enforcement agencies were quick to dismiss terrorists’ hand in the shooting and burning at the posh gambling hub, Lim said it would be prudent to be ready for any eventuality, such as the RWM attack.

The MMDA chief said they would be coordinating with the security administrators for target-hardening measures that may be employed during hotels and restaurants’ operations.

Lim was among the first government officials to go to the RWM area and ordered the deployment of traffic personnel to ensure the continuous flow of traffic in the area.
