Senator Antonio Trillanes on Tuesday reacted with a tit for tat response to the ethics complaint filed earlier against him by his colleague Richard Gordon.
Trillanes said he is also out to return the favor, “at the appropriate time,” by filing his own ethics complaint against Gordon.
Gordon had filed his ethics complaint against Trillanes last week – over what he called offensive, unethical and unparliamentary behavior during last week’s investigation into drugs smuggled in from China.
On Tuesday in a privilege speech, Trillanes underscored that there was nothing offensive or unparliamentary in his actions, and made known his intention, “in the spirit of justice and fairness,” to push for his own ethics complaint that would cite Gordon for unparliamentary conduct as chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee as well as for alleged anomalous acts as Chairman of the Philippine Red Cross.
Trillanes said there were instances that Gordon breached the rules of parliament by depriving him of the opportunity to express his views and to be heard.
He likewise cited expressions of sarcasm in the past by the late senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, calling some legislators imbeciles and “fungus-faced” but which never earned an ethics complaint.
Trillanes stepped down as a member of the Ethics Committee so as not to unduly be an influence in the hearings concerning him.
