MANILA, Philippines — Inmates of the Quezon City Jail hurled objects at each other early Friday, November 3, when members of the Batang City Jail thought members of the rival Bahala Na Gang deliberately poured water on them from a cell on a higher level.
The ruckus lasted for almost an hour before the feuding inmates were pacified by jail guards with reinforcements from the Special Weapons and Tactics team of the Quezon City Police District who needed to be called in to make sure things did not get out of control.
Jail warden Eremlito Moral said a BCJ member and one from another gang, the Sputnik, were hurt although he could not give details about their injuries.
Moral said BNG members were bringing an inmate who had suffered a seizure in his sleep to the infirmary when they accidentally spilled he water down onto the sleeping BCJ members.
“Nanggaling sa amin sa taas, ngayon ‘yung Batang City Jail sa ‘baba natapunan lang ng tubig akala siguro nabastos sila, nagkasagutan, nauwi sa may batuhan ng mga kahoy (It came from us upstairs, now the Batang City Jail members below were splashed and thought it was deliberate, words were exchanged until we ended up throwing pieces of wood at each other),” a BNG member said.
