The South Korean boy group Bangtan Boys or BTS was invited to present an award at the prestigious 61st Grammy Awards, which is the latest of their appearances in the international music scene.
Big Hit Entertainment, the group’s agency, confirmed the attendance of the group comprising Kim Namjoon or RM, Min Yoon-gi or Suga, Jung Ho-seok or J-Hope, Kim Seok-jin or Jin, Park Jimin, Jungkook and Kim Tae-hyung or V to the event on February 10, 2019.
The hashtag BTSxGrammys went viral on Twitter as their fans, which include Filipinos, known as ARMY expressed their support.
Some of them noted that going to the Grammys was previously just an aspiration of Min Yoon-gi or Suga which he said on their past interviews.
Their album “Love Yourself: Tear” earned the first Grammy nomination for a South Korean act.
It is up against the following albums, St. Vincent’s “Masseduction,” The Chairman’s “The Offering,” Foxhole’s “Well Kept Thing” and Mitski’s “Be the Cowboy.”
Should they win, this would be another milestone achievement for the sensational boy group this 2019.
BTS first made history when they became the first South Korean group to win the Top Social Artist Award at the Billboard Music Awards twice, first in 2017 and then in 2018.
In 2017, they were also the first to perform at the American Music Awards. In 2018, they bagged AMA’s Favorite Social Artist Award, beating other popular American artists Cardi B, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato.
They were also recognized as one of Time magazine’s “Next Generation Leaders” and one of United Nations’ youth leaders in the campaign to end violence among children in the world.
Since 2015, their albums filled with songs that touch on the sensitive issues of the youth, society and mental health have been on Billboard’s top 200. Billboard ranks the most popular or most streamed albums in the world.
They broke records in 2018 after their albums “Love Yourself: Her” and “Love Yourself: Tear” secured the number one spot.
This 2019, the third of the series “Love Yourself: Answer” hits number one as well.
The music awards show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles will be hosted by another acclaimed singer Alicia Keys. The performance lineup includes artists Miley Cyrus, Cardi B and Shawn Mendes.
