Some train commuters shared their experiences paying their fares using Apple Pay, a digital wallet that allows users to make cashless payments through their Apple devices.
An X (formerly Twitter) user shared on Tuesday, August 4, his experience of being able to enter the Metro Rail Transit-Line 3 (MRT-3) using an iPhone.
“Apple Pay sa Line 3. Same experience as Google Tap to Pay,” the X user wrote, posting a video as reference.
The clip showed the commuter approaching the turnstile with his iPhone and being able to pass through after his Apple Pay was detected. It showed a GoTyme card, a digital bank card, being used for the payment.

The post gained attention online, with several online users sharing their reactions through replies and reposts.
Another Filipino user suggested turning on “Express Mode” so that Face ID would no longer be required when using it at turnstiles.
“If you like, enable mo Express Mode para ‘di na need ng Face ID kapag sa MRT/LRT,” the X user wrote.
“Ayun, no need na maglabas ng wallet,” another commented.
“Does that mean PH is finally catching up with Apple Pay without any physical card? OMG, finallyyyyy!!” a different user wrote.
“GoTyme… [you] mean GOATyme. Love Apple Pay!!” another commented.
The uploader also shared another video showing him using Apple Pay to pay for his order at a food establishment.

Mastercard, Visa and GoTyme officially announced that Apple Pay has been launched in the country.

A discussion thread in a Reddit community claimed that the Apple mobile payment service has accepted the following cards from the following banks: GoTyme, UnionBank, Chinabank and Metrobank.

Online community “KasKasan Buddies” shared a tutorial on how Filipinos can set up Apple Pay on their iPhones and other Apple devices, particularly Apple Watch.
Content creator and personal finance expert Jax Reyes, who founded the “KasKasan Buddies” group, also posted a video version of the tutorial.
“KasKasan Buddies” likewise shared more videos of Filipinos paying for their purchases at some establishments using Apple Pay.
A Facebook page providing updates on digital banks in the country shared that Apple Pay is available on iPhone 6 and newer models, as well as all Apple Watch models.
