“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has made a record-breaking debut in Philippine cinemas, posting the biggest opening day gross for a film in the “Spider-Man” franchise.
The latest installment in the superhero series earned P95,930,965 during its first day of release, making it the biggest opening gross for Sony Pictures and the biggest post-pandemic opening day box office in the Philippines.
The film also recorded the third-biggest opening day of all time in the country, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
The milestone was announced by Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc., the distributor of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
Ahead of its release, the film also had special screenings in the Philippines. Columbia Pictures hosted an advanced screening featuring the ScreenX experience on July 28, while Eastern Communications hosted a 4DX experience on July 29.
Among the top-grossing cinemas for the film’s opening day were:
- SM Megamall — P2,767,125
- Ayala Malls Cinemas Trinoma — P2,541,796
- Power Plant Cinema — P2,492,150
- SM North EDSA — P1,920,188
- SM Fairview — P1,904,105
Other cinemas that recorded strong opening-day sales included SM Mall of Asia, Ayala Malls Cinemas Manila Bay, Gateway Cineplex 18 Cinema, SM Seaside Cebu and Robinsons Galleria Cinema.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is currently rated 91% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Spinning a web of spectacular set pieces together with mature emotional stakes and Tom Holland’s soulful performance, Brand New Day is a promising reset that portends Spidey will remain sticky on the big screen for years to come,” the review aggregator said.
FOX-TV said, “Perfection! The best Spider-Man movie ever.”
Empire noted the film’s connection to the source material, writing “This feels like the most comics-faithful entry.”
The Times also praised Tom Holland’s performance as Spider-Man, writing, “Spectacular Holland continues to justify the hype.”
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.
The film follows Peter Parker as he fights crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers him, while facing a new threat that could change his life and those he loves.
