MEXICO CITY, MEXICO | French carmaker, Renault, has been fined 17.1 million pesos (941,000 U.S. dollars) in Mexico for importing and selling almost 12,000 new vehicles without the right environmental certificate, the federal government announced Thursday.
Mexico’s Federal Attorney for the Environment Protection (Profepa) said that Renault’s Mexican subsidiary did not obtain 11 Mexican certificates it needed before importing and selling its 2015 and 2016 vehicle models in the country.
During the investigation, Profepa inspectors found that 11,905 vehicles of various models were included over the last two years.
The inspection of Renault’s facilities took place within a Profepa revision program of all the carmakers working in Mexico to ensure they are following environmental norms.
