Because of the many bands that proliferated during that time, not a few considered the 1990s as another golden age for Original Pilipino Music.

It was the decade when cable television and the internet were still new to a lot of people. When it came to music, it was also the time when independent and alternative artists thrived just about everywhere in the world, especially in the Philippines.

Among the biggest local bands at the time were The Dawn, AfterImage, Introvoys, Rivermaya, True Faith, Yano, Color It Red, Orient Pearl and Prettier Than Pink. Almost two decades after these bands dominated the airwaves, their key members are coming together to perform in a concert aptly called “The 90s Live,” happening this Saturday, July 22, at Solaire Resort & Casino.

Billed as a “grand reunion of ’90s icons,” the concert brings together Wency Cornejo (AfterImage), Jett Pangan (The Dawn), Paco Arespacochaga (Introvoys), Cooky Chua (Color it Red), Medwin Marfil (True Faith), Dong Abay (Yano), Naldy Padilla (Orient Pearl), Perf de Castro (Rivermaya), and Lei Bautista (Prettier Than Pink)—all on one stage.

Some of these headliners, namely Wency, Medwin, Cooky and Lei, recently shared some of their fondest memories of that era during a press conference held at Kuya’s in Quezon City. Each one still vividly remembered their numerous moments onstage, interaction with fans, how it was like one big community of musicians when seeing each other backstage and, of course, their music.

How about you? Just how familiar are you with these guys, their songs or that particular decade in general? Try to answer this little quiz and just see how much you still remember.
