UP to stop collecting tuition, other fees

MANILA, Philippines — Although Republic Act 10931, or the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act,” will not take effect until next year the University of the Philippines System announced it will stop collecting tuition and other fees this coming semester.

A memorandum from UP president Danilo Concepcion said: “All Filipino undergraduate students are qualified except those who already hold an undergraduate or bachelor’s degree, those who fail to meet admission and retention rules, and those who exceed the maximum residency requirement prescribed by the university.”

“Students of medicine and law are also not covered by the provisions,” it added.

The implementation of the no-fee policy will be funded by the tuition subsidy from the Commission on Higher Education.
