Coinciding with the release of his second studio album, Matteo Guidicelli will headline a solo concert called “Hey Matteo” happening this Thursday, November 30, at the Kia Theatre in Quezon City.
The concert will introduce what Matteo himself calls his new “90s-inspired pop-rock, live band” sound as it features covers of popular OPM tunes as well as new songs from his upcoming album, also called “Hey, Matteo.”
Not too many are aware of it but music was actually the 27-year-old Cebuano-Italian performer’s first love.
“I’ve always wanted to sing. My course in college was musical theater. But when I entered showbiz, I became known first as an actor. Now, I’m at a stage of my life when I really want to do music. I’m very excited about this concert because it’s going to feature songs from my upcoming album,” Matteo told InterAksyon and other media during the recent press conference to promote the concert.
During the event, Matteo introduced three of his new songs: “Hey,” “10,000 Days,” and “Huwag Ka nang Umuwi.”
Matteo said that some of the new songs were written by former Freestyle member Top Suzara while the others were penned by Cebuano composers.
“The album is a mix of songs that run the gamut from being intense to really calm. It’s about what I feel and I do hope the millennials can relate to it,” he further shared.
Asked what fans can expect from his concert, Matteo promises “a fun show that is more rock and roll.”
“But more than the covers, the concert will focus on my new, original songs,” he added.
Matteo will also have guest performers on the show including rapper Loonie, singer-musician Kiana Valenciano, the G-Force dance group and fellow Cebuano singer Morissette Amon.
And what about his girlfriend Sarah Geronimo, who incidentally was Morissette’s mentor in “The Voice of the Philippines”?
“No, she’s not going to perform in my concert. But I will invite her to watch. We have an agreement that we won’t be working with each other. We do duets privately, usually in our cellphones. But we don’t want people to accuse us of using each other to advance our careers,” he noted.
Produced by Big Bang productions, “Hey Matteo” will be directed by Rowell Santiago with celebrated composer Louie Ocampo as musical director. “Hey Matteo” the album is released under Star Music.
