The Philippines landed on the top 10 countries that tweeted most about gaming in 2021, according to Twitter.

In Twitter’s “2021 Year in Review,” there were more than a staggering 2.4 billion tweets about gaming on the micro-blogging platform globally.

Gaming conversations were also higher in the fourth quarter of that year.

The Philippines ranked sixth in the list of top 10 countries tweeting the most about gaming globally, and remains to be a top community for gaming.

Here are the top ten countries that talked the most about gaming on Twitter:

  1. Japan
  2. United States
  3. South Korea
  4. Thailand
  5. Brazil
  6. Philippines
  7. Indonesia
  8. United Kingdom
  9. France
  10. India

Twitter attributed this achievement to the return of in-person esports events and new game releases like Halo Infinite.

The micro-blogging platform is still the go-to place of the gaming community with game publishers, media, streamers, esports leagues, commentators and players visiting it to discuss gaming-related trends or issues.

“Interestingly, 2021 is the year where NFTs take center stage as the media rapidly grew interest in covering news and stories on digital assets,” Twitter said.

Last December, gaming group Blacklist International from the Philippines was hailed as world champions of the recently concluded Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Championship (M3).

Blacklist defeated 16 international teams, including another team from the Philippines, during the event held offline at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore.

Maurizio Barbieri, head of Sports and Gaming Partnerships for SEA and Greater China of Twitter, said that these data showed how different communities, including gaming, will continue to find ways and adapt for people to connect with one another.

“As we continue adjusting to life in the middle of a pandemic, people are finding new ways to make connections with various communities, and one of them is through gaming. The growing conversations that happened around gaming on Twitter reflect the increasing attention from the public on Twitter about various games, esports teams, and gaming personalities,” Barbieri said.

“Twitter is about connecting people and brands to give them the latest updates for the industry through conversations that happens #OnlyOnTwitter,” he added.
