PLDT HOME unveils Intel-powered TVolution device

MANILA, Philippines — Broadband and digital services provider PLDT HOME unveiled today a new TVolution product based on the compute stick originally conceptualized and manufactured by tech giant Intel.

Taking a step further, PLDT HOME turned the Intel Compute Stick into a TVolution Stick that instantly transform any HDMI-ready TV or monitor into a fully operational computer. The original TVolution product was the country’s first over-the-top (OTT) device that turns ordinary TV into an Internet-enabled TV or Smart TV.

The new TVolution Stick is no bigger than an ordinary USB dongle and runs on Windows OS 8.1 — upgradable to Windows 10 according to PLDT HOME executives — letting users stream movies and videos, search the Web, and even send and receive emails as well as other activities normally done on a PC.

“The TVolution Stick collaboration between Intel and PLDT provides a complete computing experience compared to other ordinary streaming sticks,” said Calum Chisholm, country manager at Intel Philippines. “What Intel have done is engineer a product to be at the center of the most expensive device at home and also be a product of creation.”

The Intel-powered TVolution Stick sports a quad-core Intel Atom processor and Intel HD Graphics for performance and picture quality. It has 2GB of RAM, a single USB 2.0 port and 32GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 128GB via a MicroSD card slot. Its pocket-sized body is designed to be portable and can easily connect to any TV or computer monitor with an HDMI slot.

“We’re very happy to introduce the most advanced TVolution, in collaboration with Intel,” said Gary Dujali, PLDT HOME vice president and marketing head. “Apart from providing our consumer entertainment, it gives them a full suite of PC functionality on their screens backed by PLDT HOME.”

New subscribers of DSL Plans 999 and up and all PLDT HOME Fibr plans who apply online will get the TVolution Stick for free, along with popular content from Fox, iflix, and Spinnr. Promo runs until November 30.
