The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel winning run continued while the TNT Katropa’s ended as the Kings won the battle between two streaking teams, 107-89, in a PBA Commissioner’s Cup clash on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The two teams have both been on a roll heading into this matchup with Ginebra winning three consecutive games and TNT claiming five in a row but something had to give in this one.
Fortunately for the Kings, it was their late three-point shooting that pushed them over the top as they moved up to 4-1 in the conference.
They shot 7-for-13 (54-percent) from three-point range in the fourth quarter, including four from LA Tenorio, who finished with 21 points and six assists in the game.
Import Justin Brownlee led the way with 23 points, 15 rebounds and six assists while Japeth Aguilar had a double-double with 16 markers and 14 boards.
Ginebra outscored TNT, 27-15, in the final period.
The KaTropa actually led, 61-55, at the half thanks to a huge offensive performance from import Donte Greene, who scored 21 points over the first two periods.
But Ginebra took control of the game in the third quarter before blasting TNT with a long-range barrage in the fourth quarter, where they turned a seven-point game into a blowout as the Kings led by as many as 22 points.
Greene finished with 28 points and 15 rebounds while Jayson Castro added 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in the loss. TNT dropped to 5-2.
