The Order of the Clerics Regular Minor, also known as the Adorno Fathers, has reelected Filipino Fr. Teodoro “Ted” Kalaw as their superior general.
The 46-year-old priest will serve the 16th century religious order for another term of six years.
His reelection came during the Order’s 64th general chapter in Rome on July 13.
Fr. Kalaw, who was first elected to the position in 2018, became the first Asian superior general of the Order.
Under his leadership over the past six years, the Order has experienced growth and has established new religious houses in its mission areas. Key documents were also approved that strengthened the identity and mission of the Order.
The Order, a small community with fewer than a hundred priests and professed brothers, not only proclaims the Gospel but also engages in humanitarian work to offer hope and encouragement.
It is currently present in Germany, the US, Congo, Kenya, India, the Philippines, and Italy, where the Order originated.
Born in Lipa City, Fr. Kalaw has a degree in Secondary Education from the De La Salle Lipa.
In 1999, he formally entered the Adorno Fathers’ House of Formation in Ramsey, New Jersey.
He pursued theological studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University, earning a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Theology.
After professing his solemn vows on June 18, 2005, he was ordained priest by then Auxiliary Bishop John Flesey on December 8, 2005, at St. Joseph Church, Lodi, New Jersey.
