As local news outlets aired special coverage of the 2025 midterm elections, memories of the late broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez were fondly shared online.
The high-stakes polls had journalists working around the clock to deliver updates on an event that determined the next set of leaders who will serve midway through President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term.
Watching the coverage prompted one Redditor to recall Mike Enriquez’s distinctive reporting style and how much they missed it during the latest elections..
“This is a sad reminder na hindi natin maririnig o mapapanuod si Mike Enriquez this coverage ng election,” the Reddit user said with a sad face emoji on the “r/Philippines” subreddit on Monday, May 12.
“It’s sad na 2022 was the last year Mike will cover the election. Kadalasan ,around this morning siya maghahatid ng balita then balik siya sa “24 Oras” ng 6:30 p.m,” the Reddit user added.
“I miss his voice and how he punctuates sa mga balita niya. And I’m not gonna lie, inaabangan ko siya to cover the election news until someone na ipalit siya for his shift every election coverage,” the Redditor said.

The post has so far earned 540 upvotes and 19 comments, with some Redditors expressing similar sentiments about the iconic journalist in the discussion thread.
“Naalala ko ‘yung palabas niya na ‘Imbestigador’ mula noong 2000s. Ang isa sa mga memorable na usapan sa palabas na iyan ay ang pag-raid ng pagawaan ng pagkain na dugyot,” another Redditor said.
“An Old LEGGENDARIA… ‘Hindi Kumpleto ang Eleksyon kung walang Ptyan,'” another commented, claiming Enriquez said it during the 2022 elections coverage.
In 2019, Enriquez made headlines for his straightforward remarks directed at senatorial candidates during the election coverage. At one point, he also expressed a desire to interview the leading contenders.
“Lahat nung mga nanalo, oo, na ma-interview. Gusto ko silang singilin, anong maaasahan namin sa inyo ngayon?” the broadcaster previously said.

Enriquez died in August 2023 at 71 years old.
A pillar in the broadcasting industry, he was known for anchoring GMA’s flagship newscast, “24 Oras,” and for hosting the network’s longest-running public affairs program, “Imbestigador.”
Enriquez also anchored DZBB radio’s “Super Balita sa Umaga” and “Saksi sa Dobol B.”
He won many awards in his prolific journalistic career, including the Best Male Newscaster and Best Public Service Program Host awards from the PMPC Star Awards for Television.
