An old photo of “Popstar Royalty” Sarah Geronimo as a Thomasian sparked nostalgia among members of the same community.
Facebook page “The Nostalgic Thomasian” on July 29 posted the photo, which was shared by a contributor, who wrote, “Find Sarah G in this photo.”
The photo was taken at the University of Santo Tomas Education High School (UST EHS), a laboratory high school that provides Catholic education to students from financially challenged families.
Sarah can be seen smiling in a beige-colored, blue-trimmed uniform at the farthest lower right of the photo.
The post has garnered 1,200 reactions, 100 shares, and 75 comments from Facebook users, with some recalling seeing the OPM icon during their student years.
“Last time we spent time with her was July 2011 to celebrate her birthday. Hi, Matteo Guidicelli, when you guys have the time, can we see our bestie again, please?” a Filipino quipped, referring to Sarah’s husband.
“Two years ahead kami kina Sarah. Naalala ko, may classroom program kami sa Science at inaya ko siyang mag-intermission. Go naman siya agad at kumanta. Tinapos lang niya ang test niya. She deserves all the success she has achieved as she is superbly talented and seriously hardworking,” another wrote.
“‘Yung lagi siya pinapakanta ng teachers para walang quiz o recitation. Quotang-quota sa free live front row concert hahahaha,” a different Pinoy commented.
“EHS din pala siya. Back in the 70s, ‘yan na uniform namin. Hindi na nagpalit,” another said.
“Naging student ko, practicumer comptech major,” a different Facebook user wrote.
Sarah reportedly attended UST EHS and was a junior when she joined the reality singing contest “Star For A Night,” which she won in 2003. She later signed with Viva Records.
She then continued her studies through a homeschool program at Angelicum College, now UST Angelicum College, receiving her high school diploma in 2007.
Sarah is now regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Philippine music industry and is credited for helping shape the country’s pop music through her songs.
