Rain or Shine’s James Yap achieved another feat in his illustrious PBA career as he became only the 15th player in league history to join the 10,000 points club.

The 35-year-old Yap, who won two PBA MVPs and seven titles during his 12-year stint with the Purefoods franchise, scored five straight points at the end of the third frame of the Elasto Painters’ match against the Meralco Bolts on Saturday at Ynares Center in Antipolo to breach the mark.

He came into the game just three points shy of the feat. His three-pointer with 52 seconds left in the third quarter officially propelled him to the elite group.

Yap is the first player in 16 years to score at least 10,000 points in his career. He is also the only active player who is part of the list.

Other PBA legends who are members of the 10,000 points club are Ramon Fernandez, Abet Guidaben, Alvin Patrimonio, Atoy Co, Nelson Asaytono, Philip Cezar, Jojo Lastimosa, Bogs Adornado, Robert Jaworski, Allan Caidic, Jerry Codinera, Benjie Paras, Francis Arnaiz and Norman Black, the only import on the list.

Despite the historic night, Yap however failed to lift his Rain or Shine to a victory. The Elasto Painters bowed to the Bolts, 89-73, for their second straight defeat.
