MANILA, Philippines — Monday, June 26, is Eid’l Fitr, the “feast of the breaking of the fast,” which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
It has been declared a holiday in recognition of its importance in Islam.
This year, Eid’l Fitr, like Ramadan, comes amid the continuing battle between government forces and extremist gunmen linked to the Islamic State who have entrenched themselves in Marawi City.
In this video taken by InterAksyon’s Bernard Testa, Ustad Hajji Mohammad “Bebot” Ersad Malli, administrator of the Manila Golden Mosque in Quiapo, delivers his message for Eid’l Fitr, which he underlines with an appeal for peace, tolerance and respect.
