CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A 48-year old Filipino-Chinese businessman who allegedly duped Nueva Ecija residents into paying fees for non-existent jobs abroad was arrested by Lupao town police in Zamboanga City Saturday.
Lupao police chief Senior Inspector Rodney Godio said they tracked down Raymond Chan, a resident of Malate, Manila to a residential unit on Governor Lim Avenue, Zone 1, Zamboanga City, where he was served a warrant of arrest on multiple illegal recruitment charges issued by San Jose City Regional Trial Court Judge Cynthia Martinez Florendo, ending a manhunt that began when he went into hiding in 2014.
The charges against Chan were filed by three of his alleged victims, who said they paid him P50,000 each, supposedly to process their travel documents. They waited for months to be sent abroad only to discover they could no longer contact him.
A check by police with the Department of Labor and Employment confirmed that Chan is not a registered recruiter.
