DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Davao City council declared Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Tuesday, February 13, “persona non grata” for saying President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown ranked first in the country for murders and second for rape.
The resolution declaring the senator unwelcome was filed by Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag, who also delivered a privilege speech denouncing Trillanes’ claim as a great insult to the Mindanao city that Duterte, its longtime mayor, has boasted of making the safest in the country.
Al-ag also invited Trillanes’ audience at the forum in Chicago where he made the statement to visit Davao and see for themselves whether he was telling the truth. He even offered to reimburse them if they felt unsafe.
