Aegis expected to ‘birit pa more’ in Resorts World Manila encore

Aegis performs at the Newport Performing Arts Theater for the first time last September 1.

Aegis is back at Resorts World Manila.

Just three months after they headlined their first major concert at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of the sought-after resort and casino complex in Pasay City, the iconic band is back on the same stage with “Aegis Live! Birit Pa More,” a concert happening this Wednesday, December 20, at 8PM.

Headed by the 1-2-3 punch of singing siblings Juliet, Mercy and Ken Sunot, Aegis is also composed of Stella Pabico on keyboards, Rowena Pinpin on bass, Vilma Goloviogo on drums and lone male member Rey Abenoja on guitars. The group was formed during the 1990s and started as a showband performing mostly in the club circuits in Japan.

But it was not until they released their landmark album “Halik” in 1995 that the band became a household name and endeared themselves to Overseas Filipino Workers all over the world. The album gave the world the massive hits and now karaoke staples “Luha,” “Basang Basa sa Ulan,” and the title track that showcased the Sunot sisters’ patented “birit” style of singing.

Since then, the band has released a total of five studio recordings, three compilation releases and one Christmas album that featured another big hit in “Christmas Bonus.”

They also went on to score more hits like “Sinta,” “Mahal na Mahal Kita” and “Sayang na Sayang.”

Their iconic status was further cemented when the Philippine Educational Theater Association paid tribute to their music through the original hit musical “Rak of Aegis” in 2014.

During the press conference to promote their September 1 concert, “Aegis na Aegis: The Story of Us” last August, Juliet Sunot admitted to be a little apprehensive about performing in such a large venue.

“We usually play in clubs and small venues here and abroad so we’re not sure if we can fill up the Newport Performing Arts Theater,” she said in mostly Filipino at the time.

As it turned out, the band had nothing to worry about as the September concert was a smashing success and even went on to win the Best Major Concert award from the Aliw Awards Foundation.

The acclaimed “Aegis na Aegis: The Story of Us” concert has also led to this encore performance that also features another famous “birit” performer in Mitoy Yonting as their special guest.

With Mitoy also in the house, fans can expect a lot of high notes between the two performers that may include some numbers together. As Aegis is also expected to once again highlight their greatest hits and more, audiences are also likely to transform the venue into one big karaoke room.

Presented by Resorts World Manila in cooperation with Ultimate Shows, Inc., tickets for “Aegis Live! Birit Pa More,” directed by Lambert de Jesus are available at TicketWorld outlets. For more information, visit
