“Love speaks no gender.”

This was the comment of now-fiancée Riza Geneblaza, who got engaged to Olympic medalist Nesthy Petecio on Saturday.

In a social media post, Riza shared that she is now “officially engaged” to the boxer, showing off her gold ring with diamonds.

The administrator of Nesthy’s official Facebook page also shared a message from the athlete’s personal account.

“Sorry kung ‘di masyado romantic ‘yung proposal ko sa’yo, wala akong makunchaba gawin ‘yung plan ko kasi ‘di ka pwede umuwi sa Davao… Doon ko sana gawin ‘yun with my family… sorry pill, kung pinaiyak, inaaway at binuburaot kita bago ko gawin mag-propose sa’yo..” she said.

“Late na din ako naka-video call sa mga kapatid ko kasi umiiyak ka na dahil binuburaot na kita ee… hahahahaha,” Nesthy added. “I love you pill, Gen.”

When the athlete bagged silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, among those that she honored was the LGBTQ community, which she is proud to be part of.

“Sobrang proud po ako bilang member po ng LGBT po. Hindi ko po tinatanggi ‘yun,” Nesthy said in March 2020 interview following her feat.

“Kumbaga, kahit anong gender po natin, basta kung may pangarap po tayo, laban po,” she added before.

Nesthy made history by being the first Filipina to score a boxing medal in the Games after 25 years.
