The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is urging Filipinos to use their Digital National ID in transactions, reaffirming its validity as proof of identity.

In a statement on Friday, August 15, the agency stressed that the digital version of the National ID “can be presented as a valid and sufficient proof of identity” for transactions in both public and private institutions.

According to the PSA, individuals who have registered for a National ID can access its digital version through the eGovPH app. The agency added that 88,236,337 National IDs are now available on the platform.

“For everyone who has successfully registered, your National ID is just a few taps away,” PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa said.

“We encourage you to immediately access your Digital National ID, a reliable and secure valid ID that can be conveniently presented in transactions through your smartphone,” she added.

As proof of its validity, the PSA said some Filipinos have already used the Digital National ID to apply for financial assistance, transact at money remittance centers, open bank accounts and verify e-wallet accounts, among other uses.

Assistant Secretary Rosalinda Bautista, deputy national statistician of the PhilSys Registry Office, also highlighted the benefits of accessing the Digital National ID, noting its convenience and accessibility for everyday transactions.

“Since we first introduced the Digital National ID, we have seen how it empowered more and more Filipinos in transactions, enabling their access to various services,” she said.

“We implore our fellow kababayans who do not have their Digital National ID yet — or previously downloaded a copy — to access it now via the eGovPH app and enjoy the advantages of being a registered person,” Bautista added.

Registered Filipinos who have downloaded their Digital National IDs via the national-id.gov.ph website are now encouraged to access their Digital National IDs through the eGovPH app.
