Police in Ozamiz City dug up five sacks of bones from what they described as an alleged “mass grave” of the Parojinog family.

The exhumation, at what was said to be an abandoned gold mine, took eight hours.

It came days after the deadly raids that left Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and 15 other persons, including his wife and two siblings, dead. The late mayor and members of his family were publicly accused by President Rodrigo Duterte of involvement in the drug trade.

Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, the Ozamiz police chief, said the existence of the grave was confirmed by the barangay chairman of the village where it is located. He added that the information relayed to them was that almost 15 persons were buried there.

Aside from bones, clothes, pieces of rope, a belt, a wallet with mobile phone cards were also recovered.
