In a rousing farewell ceremony at the Department of Social Welfare and Development marked by emotional singing and fond expressions of endearment, former secretary Judy Taguiwalo, who was rejected by the Commission on Appointments, took a final bow and said her goodbye.

A day previously, President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his dismay that the appointment of Taguiwalo was shot down, attributing it to the system of checks and balance in government, and adding that there was nothing he could do about it.

Taguiwalo, in turn, addressed President Rodrigo Duterte in her remarks: “Mr. President, I kept faith with you. Nalulungkot lang ako kasi I don’t think you kept faith with me at the end. But, still, thank you for allowing me to serve the Filipino people as a member of your Cabinet, for showing the people, ang Kaliwa kaya maglingkod nang tapat at walang katiwalian (the Left can serve faithfully and untainted by anomalies).”
