MANILA, Philippines — Classes have been suspended Wednesday, September 13, in several areas of Luzon and Metro Manila as tropical storm “Maring” continued to dump rains even as it moved out to sea.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, in its latest update, reported three deaths from Maring — the Pondal brothers Justine, 14, and Jude, 17, who died in a landslide in Taytay, Rizal, and a two-month old baby in Lucena City, Quezon — and 13 persons missing in Calamba City, Laguna where houses were swept away by floodwaters.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration last tracked Maring at 250 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales early Wednesday morning. The storm, which made landfall in Quezon a day earlier, was packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center with gusts of up to 90 kph as it moved west-northwest at 15 kph.

Meanwhile, another storm, typhoon “Lannie,” was tacked to 610 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes with winds of 125 kph gusting up to 155 kph and moving west-northwest at 22 kph.
