“Thank you again, Mayor Honey, for being at the right place, at the right time!”

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana expressed this remark to Manila Mayor-elect Honey Lacuna-Pangan after finding out she was the one who caught him when he fainted during the Philippine Independence Day rites last Sunday.

Video from media outlets showed Lorenzana collapsed during the 124th Philippine Independence Day rites held at the Rizal Park in Manila on Sunday morning, June 12.

It could be seen that Lacuna was behind him when he fainted. She was able to briefly break Lorenzana’s fall before his head and body hit the ground.

Days later after the incident, on June 14, Lorenzana shared a thank you message for Lacuna.

The defense chief also juxtaposed a photo of them on that fateful morning with a screenshot of him fainting during the ceremony.

“Do you believe in miracles? I do. Last Sunday, Mayor-elect Dra. Honey Lacuna saved me from a possible life-altering injury when I fainted due to the heat and exhaustion,” Lorenzana said.

“Thank you again, Mayor Honey, for being at the right place, at the right time!” he added.

Several online users later joined in thanking the incoming Manila Mayor and current vice mayor of the nation’s capital.

“That was a frightening fall. Very lucky Mayor-elect Honey broke your fall! Hope all is well,” one Twitter user said.

“You drop like a log Sir. Luckily Mayor Lacuna got your back,” another user tweeted.

Others also wished Lorenzana well.

In his previous post, the DND chief attributed his fainting spell to his exhaustion from his earlier Singapore trip and the heat in Manila.

Lorenzana attended a bilateral meeting with Singapore Ministry of Defence, Singapore (MINDEF) Minister, Dr. Ng Eng Hen on June 10.

“Hello, everyone! My lack of rest and sleep from my recent successive international security engagements may have taken its toll on me. Late na kami nakabalik from Singapore, tapos napakainit pa sa Luneta kanina,” he said.

The former general also thanked those who expressed concern for him. He also said that his test results so far turned out okay.

“But as the saying goes, a true soldier always gets up quickly after a fall. I’m fine now. Just resting since the results of the tests conducted earlier are okay. I’m deeply moved by your concern and well wishes. Thank you and God bless us all,” Lorenzana said.

Lacuna also previously offered her prayers for Lorenzana’s health on a Facebook post.

“Dalangin ko po ang agarang paggaling ng ating National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana. Salamat po sa Panginoon at stable na po ang inyong kondisyon. Get well soon po!” she said.
