A reporter responded to a social media user who accused her of trying too hard to look “cute” and said they felt “weird” about her aura.
GMA News senior correspondent EJ Gomez on Tuesday, August 25, responded to a Threads user who had watched one of her online posts.
“Ako lang ba hindi maganda vibes na nababasa dito kay EJ Gomez, GMA reporter? Mukha s’yang GGSS na effort na effort mag-feeling cute. Something’s weird about her aura,” the Threads user wrote, sharing a screenshot of Gomez’s video.
“GGSS” is a Filipino slang term for “Gandang Ganda Sa Sarili,” usually used as an insult to describe someone who thinks they are very attractive.
Gomez saw the post and denied being “GGSS.”
“I wasn’t even giving any effort right there—just stood to appreciate the rain,” she commented.
“I’m not GGSS. I know [and] feel I’m maganda in my own way [and] it shows— [and] everyone is maganda in their own way,” the reporter said.
“I don’t intend to ‘mag-feeling cute’ because I’m cute, whenever I need [and] want to—anyone can,” Gomez added.
The reporter also said that while she does not mind the comment about her “weird” aura, she found the post about her “weird.”
“What’s weird to me is this post of yours. Know that [you] can’t fool a confident woman. So yes, IKAW LANG ‘YAN,” Gomez said.
The reporter also expressed gratitude to those who supported her amid the negative post.
“To all my Kapuso, don’t worry about a thing. We’re not moved by this kind of nuisance or demolition job—not even a flinch. Your EJ Gomez just commented because we don’t tolerate such negativity,” she wrote.
“She will continue to do her job (and slay) in the best way she knows how, because she can and why not?!” Gomez added.
Other Threads users praised her for calling out the online user who attempted to put her down.
“Gurl, don’t apologize to these weirdos, 2026 na, okay lang mag-feeling maganda or GGSS. Never dim your light for these insecure people,” a Threads user commented.
“Grabe siya sa comment sayo, halatang inggit, hindi nga niya ma-upload mukha niya,” another wrote.
“Kadiri ‘yung nag-post, napaka-inseccure! Kawawang tao, ma-issue at inggetera vibes,” a different Threads user commented.
Gomez is a senior news correspondent for GMA News who was previously noted for her “typhoon-proof” makeup.
