Newspaper columnist shot dead in Sultan Kudarat

MANILA, Philippines – A newspaper columnist was shot dead by still unidentified motorcycle-riding assailant in Barangay Kalanawi II, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat, radio DZRH reported Monday.

The report quoted President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat police chief Senior Inspector Joan Resurrecion as saying that Leo Diaz, who was also a volunteer reporter of Radio Mindanao Network-Cotabato, was on his way to Katiko Village when the perpetrator pursued and shot the victim.

Diaz, was also riding a motorcycle with two others when the incident happened, was declared dead on the spot.

His two companions were rushed to a hospital by the police.

Hot pursuit operations are ongoing to capture Diaz’s killer, according to Sultan Kudarat provincial director Senior Supt. Raul Supiter.
