MANILA, Philippines — Saying his is a “purging regime,” President Rodrigo Duterte said he plans to fire another agency head, at least three police generals and “70 or 49” law enforcers for corruption before the week ends.
“I am firing another chairman of an entity in government maybe this week and another set of … policemen,” Duterte said at a ceremony to kickoff the “Game On! All In! For Nation Building” of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. Thursday evening.
“I am in the thick of firing people,” he added. “I intend to fire another maybe 70 or 49 policemen and three generals for corruption.”
“This is really a purging regime,” Duterte said. “I think that I’ll be spending a lot of time just to clean up government and would consume four years for the time that I would be there.”
He did not, however, name the officials he intends to fire.
