MANILA, Philippines – Three Supreme Court Associate Justices showed up Monday morning as the House committee on justice tackled anew the impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
Associate Justice Samuel Martires was to testify on the resolution he penned on the application for survivorship benefits of spouses of justices and judges.
Associate Justices Lucas Bersamin and Diosdado Peralta were to testify on the alleged falsification of a decision in the case of the senior citizen partylist case.
Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio was invited, but declined to attend, saying he has no personal knowledge of the acts being alleged of Sereno.
Sereno continued to refuse the invitation of the committee to show up, and sent her legal counsel instead.
