The Metro Manila Film Festival has announced on its official Facebook page that box office earnings for its 2017 edition have “set new records” and exceeded its P1 billion target.

The MMFF made the announcement on Monday and added that “acting on the clamor of moviegoers (especially those who just came back from their holiday vacation) and with the utmost cooperation of theater operators,” the showing of MMFF films is also extended in select cinemas.

As checked with the official website of SM Cinema, the country’s biggest cinema chain, all eight entries of the MMFF — “All of You,” “Ang Larawan,” “Ang Panday,” “Deadma Walking,” “Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad,” “Haunted Forest,” “Meant To Beh,” and “Siargao” — are still being screened in its cineplexes nationwide.

Other cinema chains like Ayala Mall Cinemas, Robinsons Movieworld and Megaworld Lifestyle Malls are still showing select MMFF entries.

The MMFF also announced that season passes for the festival will continue to be honored in SM, Ayala, Vista, Starmall and Cinema 2000 theaters.

Based on posts on their respective Facebook pages, most of this year’s MMFF entries are thrilled to be extended to a third week. The MMFF has particularly lauded “Deadma Walking” for coming up with a novel campaign where it announced that it will “open January 1 in more cinemas nationwide.”

“This is a good example of a new campaign intended for another opening date,” the MMFF posted.

The MMFF entries, however, no longer have all cinemas to themselves. They are now competing with Hollywood films that opened Monday including “Pitch Perfect,” “Ferdinand,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” “Jeepers Creepers 3: Ravenous,” “The Commuter” and the returning “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
