If you ask Ginebra coach Tim Cone who’s the most popular player on his team today, what do you think will his answer be? Mark Caguioa? JayJay Helterbrand? Japeth Aguilar?

Nope. It’s Scottie Thompson.

“Everybody loves the way he plays. He’s great guy on and off the court. He has become our team’s most popular player and for good reasons. Fans cherish him,” Cone told InterAksyon.

“They love to see competitor and Scottie is a competitor in the truest sense of the word.”

He’s just on his second season, but Thompson has already caught the hearts of many Ginebra fans. In fact, along with Gin Kings legend Bal David, Thompson has one of the top-selling Ginebra jerseys according to reports from the Ginebra marketing office.

It’s easy to understand why. Despite his 6’1” frame, Thompson has become an epitome the team’s “never-say-die” attitude.

In the Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Thompson currently leads all locals in rebounding with 8.3 a game, beating out the likes of teammate Japeth Aguilar and reigning three-peat MVP June Mar Fajardo.

Thompson is only 23, but Cone has already called him one of the best rebounding guards he has ever seen. His offensive skills are still unpolished, but there is little doubt about him becoming Ginebra’s next superstar.
