Gilas Pilipinas pounds hapless India for 5th Jones Cup win

The Philippine national men’s basketball team pummeled hapless India, 101-70, to register its fifth win in the 2017 William Jones Cup on Saturday at Taipei International Peace

Matthew Wright led Gilas Pilipinas with 19 points on perfect five-for-five three-point shooting as the squad dropped a huge second quarter bomb to pull away with the easy win.

Von Pessumal added 14 points while rarely used player Almond Vosotros scored all of his 14 markers in the fourth frame.

India stood toe-to-toe against Gilas Pilipinas in the opening quarter which ended 27-24 in favor of the Philippines.

But Gilas Pilipinas flexed its muscles in the following quarter, launching a blistering 19-0 attack to grab the lead for good.

Gilas Pilipinas buried a total of 17 triples in the game to burn the Indians who remained winless in eight games.

With the win, Gilas Pilipinas improved to 5-3 ahead of the its match against Iran on the last day of the tournament on Sunday.
